FAQ
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. However, orthodontic treatment can be beneficial at any age.
Treatment time varies depending on individual needs, but most patients wear braces for 18-24 months. Some cases may be shorter or longer based on complexity.
While braces don't hurt during application, you may experience some soreness for a few days after getting them and after adjustment appointments. This discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires to move teeth, while Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners.
You should avoid hard, sticky, and chewy foods that could damage braces, such as: hard candies, popcorn, nuts, chewy candies, hard pretzels, whole apples (unless cut into small pieces).
Contact our office immediately to schedule an appointment. In the meantime, if a wire is poking you, use orthodontic wax (provided in your starter kit) to cover it. Never try to fix broken brackets or wires yourself.
Brush after every meal using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Use floss threaders or water flossers daily to clean between brackets and under wires. We'll demonstrate proper cleaning techniques during your appointments.
